authorize ANYONE to use this card. I said’ NO and how did she open that account, what does she look like and what was she trying to buy, are you going to press charges, I am willing to press charges, I want this stopped, this whole Identity theft thing has been a nightmare’ “Hold on Ms. (last name) I’ll answer your questions one by one. We know the account was opened with false Identification at the location where we arrested her. Good thing you placed a fraud alert on your credit cards or she may have gotten away with it again”. I said ‘How could that happen, I closed the account’. He said, “These people are professional identity thieves, they are smart and dangerous. We will keep her for questioning, I will have one of the officers get back to you when we find out anything further, thanks for your help Bye”.
When I hung up the phone, I felt like finally justice will be done. I did get a return phone call from a different officer. He did not have much to tell me. However, he did say, “I believe she is involved with a larger Identity theft issue than we thought, this is going to take time to put together,” I said ‘Are you going to press charges, do I need to fly out their to press charges’? He replied, “We need to put all of the pieces together first before we do anything and it will take some time”. I said ‘since six of my fraudulent credit cards were created in your city, I want to press charges’ He says, “I understand that but we need to do more investigating ….I can’t say too much here but these people have hit other stores too, we have to do more investigating I’ll contact you if we need anything further, Okay”. I responded saying ‘I don’t have a doubt in my mind that this is more serious than you thought because I have six out of eleven credit cards that were opened in California and this has not been pleasant to deal with’ He says “ I’ll get back to you, thanks” He hung up.
That was the last time I had heard from that police station. I have no clue what happened to the female impersonator. I know this was a long story but it needed to be told. I will never forget the impact Identity theft had on my life; the feeling of being violated does not leave. I am reminded of it every time I applied for some type of credit, it didn’t stop me from getting what I needed but being a victim of identity theft, I sure get very tired of explaining what remains on my credit report.
